Blood Circulation And Formation of Milk
Anatomy of Mammary Gland
Milk is synthesized & produced in the mammary glands. Within the mammary gland is the milk manufacturing unit, the Alveolus. It contains a single layer of epithelial secretory cells circling a central storage area called the Lumen, which is connected to a duct system. The secretory cells are further surrounded by a layer of Myoepithelial cells and blood capillaries. The raw materials for milk production transported through the bloodstream to the secretory cells. It takes 400 to 800 Liters of blood to deliver components for 1 Liter of milk.
William Harvey born 1578 was an English physician and the first known physician to describe completely, and in detail, the blood circulation and properties of blood being pumped to the brain and body by the heart. He discovered this many centuries after the Quran revealed. At the time of the revelation of the Quran, the fact that the blood carries the nutrients absorbed from digested food into its constituents to mammary glands for production of milk was not known.
Quran Miracle, Surah Nahl: Production of Milk
The blood collects and transports the substances formed by digested food to organs. This process is initiated by blood coming into contact with the contents of intestines on their walls.
Now look that almost 1400 years ago this is what the Quran told us in Surah Nahl verse 66.
And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies – between excretion and blood – pure milk, palatable to drinkers. Surah Nahl 16:66
Milk is composed of carbohydrates, proteins, fat, many vitamins and water. And all of this is extracted from the animal’s nutrition. This knowledge regarding the contents of food in the gut and of blood and that this white substance (Milk) could be a product of blood, not known to people of the past and thus a great Miracle of Quran that it mentioned such a complex phenomenon of modern biology.
