KINGS-1 SUMMARY
Kings 1 and 2 is a sequel to books of Samuel and should be read as a continuation of the history of the Hebrew nation contained in the previous books. Initially, these books were regarded as one book. It describes God’s faithfulness to his people despite their sin. Despite ending with the judgment of exile, there was still hope in God’s promises at the end of 2 Kings. It started from the last days of David and ended at the destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel, in 721 B.C and to the fall of the southern kingdom, Judah, in 586 B.C. So the two books contained almost 300 years of the history of the Israelites from the death of David 970 B.C. to the Babylonian exile in 586 B.C. Kings-1 starts with Solomon and ends with Elijah. After Solomon’s death, Israel was ruled by a series of kings, most of whom were sinful and idolatrous. Among the evilest kings were Ahab and his queen, Jezebel, who brought the worship of Baal to new heights in Israel. However, God kept sending his prophets to encourage God’s people to be hopeful and trust that God will ultimately fulfill all his promises.
