١٤ وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا
14 While He has created you in stages?
١٥ أَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا
15 Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers
١٦ وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا
16 And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?
١٧ وَاللَّهُ أَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا
17 And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth.
٢٣ وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا
23 And said, ‘Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwa’ or Yaghuth and Ya’uq and Nasr.

SURAH NUH BRIEF COMMENTARY & BACKGROUND
This Surah has 28 verses divided into 2 Rukus/Sections. Name applied to whole Surah as it narrates the story of Prophet Nuh. This Surah was revealed in Mecca most probably in a later stage of Prophet Muhammad’s preaching in Mecca when persecution had become severe.
Nuh was a prophet of God. When Nuh apprehends that his teachings and messages are not accepted by the community, he prayed to God. God commanded Nuh to notify the people of the flood. God brings forth the water from the skies to prove Nuh’s message to be accurate. God furnishes the world a new beginning. The doubters disbelieved God’s word, so they were drowned.
